Violin, Viola & Cello Lessons
Violin, viola, lessons are taught from ages 4 and up, and the cello from age 5. We teach from the Suzuki method, the Essential Elements books if students are learning with them in an orchestra class at school, and a variety of Fiddle and Jazz method books for advancing students wishing to branch out into other styles. No matter which style is taught, the fundamentals and required technique will be taught. Our goal is to teach students and prepare them as if they were to pursue a career in music, and will help them get what they want from their instrument. Whether it is to prepare for college, student recitals, performing in a band or fiddle group, we have been in all of these situations and can help the student focus on their interests while providing solid technique and music theory for a fun, well rounded learning experience.Below is a brief summary about the different ways we teach.
Suzuki Method
The Suzuki method of teaching violin is the world’s most popular method for learning the violin. No matter what age, the Suzuki Method provides a solid foundation on technique and ear training while learning familiar simple songs in the beginning. For lessons with children, we encourage the parent to sit in on the lesson to help out the child at home. We also have a Suzuki Group Class that coincides with the Suzuki lesson, allowing the children to learn together and play their pieces together in a group setting.
Fiddle & Jazz
Jazz, Bluegrass, Celtic and traditional American Fiddle are some of the styles we teach. We will go over music theory such as chord theory, motivic development, rhythm in different styles, and improvisation including writing out your own melodies and solos. We can help you get on stage, showing you how to amplify your instrument to perform on stage. Advanced players will have gig opportunities with the faculty.
